OVERSEAS
CHINESE CHILDRENS CHORUS |
The
New York Overseas Chinese Children's Chorus (OCCC) was founded
by Ms. Pi-Chu Hsiao on August 3, 1986 . The principle aim of
the chorus is to develop appreciation of music by these children,
enhance their musicianship and through the beauty of Chinese
songs, generate a greater appreciation of, and interest in,
Chinese culture and language.
The
OCCC, with a growing reputation, has often been invited to perform,
at such venues as
Lincoln Center , Waldorf Hotel, and Rockefeller Center , as
well as many overseas Chinese and community charity events.
Their Beautiful voices and unmitigated joy in singing, coupled
with their earnestness and seriousness in purpose, have touched
audiences everwhere
and won much praise and applause. ..

Hai-Tien
Chorus has maintained an active performance schedule both locally
and in other cities at the invitation of many community groups
and cultural organizations ever since its inception in 1980 by
Conductor Pi-Chu Hsiao. It has performed in various music centers
and concert halls, including Avery Fisher Hall and
Alice Tully Hall of New York 's Lincoln Center ,
Manhattan Town Hall , Madison Square Garden Theater ,
Merkin Concert Hall and Colden Center of Queens
College .
In 2001 the Hai-Tien Chorus won first place honors at the First
Annual International Overseas Chinese Mixed Chorus Competition
held in Taipei, defeating other choruses representing all
continents and coming from Brazil, Japan, Los Angeles, New Zealand,
Singapore, Thailand, Vancouver and Washington D.C.
The critically acclaimed Hai-Tien Chorus continues to grow and
improve artistically under the direction of Ms.
Ms.
Pi-Chu Hsiao,
conductor, is a graduate of the Taipei Normal University
. She as dedicated her life to many areas of music education
and community service. As a music teacher for over fifty years
she has transformed many elementary, secondary school and university
student choruses as well as som adult choruses into all-province
championship choruses. She has served with the Ministry of Education
in Taiwan , as Director of the Children's Chorus of the Chinese
Broadcasting Corporation and conductor of the Young Lions Chorus
in addition to many other posts and is a well-known music adjudicator
in musical auditions and competitions.

HIS
FRIENDS |

His
Friends has been making harmonies since 1990 and completed
numerous concerts in the Greater New York Metropolitan area
including charity concerts for patients of leukemia.
This
all male chorus includes members who have degrees in music and
also those that do not, but the love of singing is equal among
all members. With a deep spiritual foundation, all members serve
in their respective churches as deacons, elders, conductors
and soloists. This evening is their Lincoln Center debut.
Samson
Sangkyun Choi,
Conductor is an outstanding baritone singer who was praised
as possessing an ¡°Excellent Voice¡± by the New York Times.
Samson is a columnist, stage director, a poet and opera librettist.
He has a book of original poems titled ¡° Kkang Ah¡± which
was published by Mung Suk Press Co. and has written
a libretto titled ¡° Magic Flute from Korea ¡± based
on Mozarts ¡° Magic Flute ¡±.
Hyun
Jin Cho,
pianist, is the graduate of Chugye University for the Arts (B.A.)
and the Manhattan School of Music (M.M.). Currently she is pursuing
her doctorate in piano performance at the City University of
New York.

THE
AMERICAS VOCAL ENSEMBLE |

The
Americas Vocal Ensemble made its debut at New York's Americas
Society in 1982, and has performed throughout the northeast U.S.
and South America, including New York (Carnegie Hall and Lincoln
Center), Washington DC (the Inter-America Music Festival) and
Boston (The Gardner Museum) as well as at colleges, libraries,
music schools, community centers, museums and many other venues.
As Artists-In-Residence at the Americas Society for many years,
they have presented many unique and innovative programs and have
performed premieres of more than 100 contemporary works, including
compositions by leading North and South American composers.
In
1998, they performed for The American Composers Orchestra at Carnegie
Hall as part of the Sonidos de los Americas Festival. They have
also appeared with the Westchester Philharmonic (as part of the
Music America Festival), Hoboken Symphony and Fairfield Chamber
Orchestra.
Nelly
Vuksic, conductor, was
born in Argentina and has conducted extensively in Latin America
as well as in the U.S. , Europe , and Asia . Ms. Vuksic is the
recipient of several national and international music awards.
She is also director of New York 's United Nations Singers.

EBONY
ECUMENICAL ENSEMBLE |

The
Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble, Inc. was founded by Bettye F. Forbes
in 1979 for participation in the reopening of the renovated
James Memorial Chapel at Union Theological Seminary of New York
City.
The
Ensemble has captivated audiences throughout New York , New
Jersey , and Conneticut as well as the other parts of the country.
The ensemble has also performed at New York 's Carnegie Hall
for the Korean sacred choral Festival in 1997 and at Lincoln
Center in 1999 and 2000 for its 20 th and 21 st anniversaries.
The ensemble earned international acclaim for its performances
for the 46 th anniversary of South Korea 's Christian Broadcasting
system in 2000 and in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro , Brazil
, as part of the 1986 and 1988 International Black Arts Festivals.
The Toys' R Us Special Children's Benefit Concert, and performed
for former South African President Nelson Mandela on his first
trip to the United States in 1984. The Ensemble made its debut
appearance in the Emmy-nominated Live from Lincoln Center
excerpts from Porgy and Bess with the New York
Philharmonic. The Ensemble inspires hope through its music ministry
with spirit-filled presentations.
Bettye
F. Forbes, Conductor, the
founder and director of The Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble earned
her Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees at Howard
University, and studied choral conducting under the guidance
of Professor Evelyn White and the late Dean Warner Lawson.
A member of the National Music Honor, Society Pi Kappa Lambda,
she is also active in the American Choral Directors Association
and the Gospel Music Workshop of America. She is the recipient
of awards from numerous organizations, including Concerned
Women of Brooklyn, the Religious Television Programming Organization,
Key Women of America, Inc. and the American Negro Spiritual
Research Foundation. She has inspired youth in choral music
at secondary schools and colleges in North Carolina, Virginia
and Washington, D.C..
She also presents joint workshops in New York City. Mrs. Forbes'
dedication to promoting the music of the African American
religious experiences is the hallmark of The Ebony Ecumenical
Ensemble, Inc.

THE
PLAINFIELD GIRLCHOIR |

The
Plainfield Girlchoir performs regularly, averaging 10 appearances
each season. The choir draws its members mostly from the Plainfield
community. Its members, ages 11 through 18, rehearse three times
weekly and have earned a reputation for possessing fine tone,
exact diction, and refinement in presentation.
The
Plainfield Girlchoir has sung as a visiting choir at the invitation
of several New York City churches of musical distinction, among
them Grace Church and Trinity Church , Wall Street. The choir
is a regularly invited participant at the St. Bartholomew's Evensong
Festival each year. The choir has made well over 100 appearances
since its founding in 1990. their first CD, Thou Art My Hope
, was released in 2002.
Domecq
Smith, Conductor, is now in his 4 th year as
Music Director of The Plainfield Girlchoir. A native of Texas
Mr. Smith attended Texas Christian University and the Peabody
Institute of Johns Hopkins University, earning a BA in organ
and voice in 1989. In 1992 he was awarded a MMus degree from
the Manhattan School of Music. He has appeared numerous times
as organist and choirmaster and is also a published composer.

THE
CANTICUM NOVUM SINGERS |

The
Canticum Novum Singers, hailed by critics and audiences alike,
is now in its 31st exciting season under the direction of its
founder, Harold Rosenbaum. During the past 30 years, this chamber
choir has achieved both national and international recognition
for its stylistic versatility, vocal blend, and expressive range.
The Canticum Novum Singers has performed in all of New York's
major concert halls and has collaborated with The Orchestra of
St. Luke's, The American Symphony Orchestra, The Brooklyn Philharmonic,
The Riverside Symphony, The Madeira Bach Festival Orchestra in
Portugal, L'Orchestre Philharmonique D'Europe in Paris, and The
Symphony Orchestra of Budapest in Spain and Andorra.
The
group has been heard in more than 50 radio broadcasts on WNCN,
WQXR, WNYC, WBAI, and NPR. Its "St. John Passion" performance
at the prestigious Madiera Bach Festival was broadcast throughout
Europe , and its annual recital on WNCN was for years a holiday
tradition. The chorus has also held concert tours of Italy , Spain
, Germany , England , Scandinavia , Eastern Europe , and France
; and countless performances in this country .
Canticum Novum, chorus-in-residence at the Bloomingdale School
of Music, has performed over 600 concerts worldwide. It allows
elite amateur singers from many different professions the opportunity
to perform great choral music at a highly professional level.
Admission is by rigorous audition. In this way, the chorus maintains
the high standards for which it is so well known. In fact, many
listeners are unaware that Canticum Novum is a volunteer, rather
than professional chorus.
Mr.
Harold Rosenbaum, conductor, has held professorships
at four universities, including The Juilliard School; he is currently
a professor at University at Buffalo , where he directs the choirs,
and teaches conducting and other courses. He has created a commissioning
program for young composers, and has premiered over 100 works
. Other highlights in his distinguished career include over a
dozen European tours, including The Madeira Bach Festival in Portugal
and festivals in England and Italy and performances at Lincoln
Center 's Great Performers Series, and have appeared on The David
Letterman Show, at The Tanglewood Festival, and in countless other
concerts . Mr. Rosenbaum has conducted over 1,250 concerts with
these choirs and with others.
He has been heard on dozens of radio and television broadcasts,
including Voice of America worldwide, in multiple live broadcasts
from Symphony Space and on WNCN, and on eight commercial CD's
for SONY Classical, CRI, Bridge Records, Koch International and
Capstone Records.

THE
IMMANUEL CHOIR OF YOUNGNAK PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH |

Immanuel
choir takes charge of the 1st section of Sunday worship services
at 7:00 a.m. , offering the first time of the day for prasing
the Lord's grace. Immanuel choir obeys the word "The people
whom I formed for Myself, Will declare My praise"(Isaiah
43:21), and the rejoicing God every Sunday morning. About 150
members wake up at the dawn 4:00 to 5:00 , and they come to the
church punctually in remind of the appointment with the Lord.
During last 30 years, how it rains or snow, hot or cold, nothing
could hinder their prasing, and it moved the church members. Their
powerful and cheerful voices raise to the Lord be glory and awaken
the dawn, which became the joy of the Immanuel choir because it
is a way of confessing their faith. Like the meaning of the word
"Immanuel", we confess only God be with us to execute
these valuavle important mission.
Immanuel choir undertakes the culture mission through musical
concert. From the concert at the 1st Army troops HQ 1999, they
regularly have concert tour to local church to sharing and associating
with. Paul Church at Chunju, Sekwang Chuch at Kunsan, Joongang
Church at Chonan, Art & Cultural center at Youngwol is the
achievements. Now the concert occupies a position of prasing mission.
At year 2000, Immanuel choir performed together with the KBS Korean
classical music orchestra at the christmas concert, and it became
an ideal model of media mission.
Sang
Gyu Choi, Conductor, has most distinguished
career. From the year 2002, he focuses on the fostering the
local culture of music, under the motto of "professionals
go hand in hand with amateurs". He has vision of spreading
the infrastructure of musical concert, which now bearing fruits
at Youngwal district, Kangwon Province . He founded youth's
choir, women's choir, children's choir at the Yongwal district,
which inspired the local people. At the year 2003, < Dong
Gang River , the sound of flowing water Choir Festival> was
held with the help of Youngwal district government. 500 people
of 14 choirs from all over the nation attended the festival,
it shows an ideal model of healthy and beautiful local culture.
He hoped to grow world famous art and performing company from
the barren fields of culture, and it was realized as youngwal
youth's choir. The choir held joint concert with the Capital
Christian School , Sacramento , CA , and win high praise of
"Wonderful Korea" by the media. Visiting programs
including co-working class and home stay showed the real frendship
among the young generations of Korea and the US .
