Description of the art work

"Oneness"
12 3/4 X 9 inches
watercolor on paper
2002
by Heejung Kim

The painting presents a human head containing various religious symbols that are squeezed and connected to together. The religious symbols consist of those in Buddhism (lotus meaning compassion), Christianity (descending dove meaning Holy Sprit), Taoism (symbol of Yin-Yang), Jainism (bowl), Islam (star and crescent), Judaism (menorah), Hinduism (fire representing destruction and creation of the Universe), Zoroastrianism (sacred fire), and Shinto (torii), Although the doctrines of the religions are different from each other, they provide us one meaning-together having a better life.
