Biography: |
Baritone
SANG KYUN CHOI is a frequent soloist with various organizations
in New York as well as being a featured performer in oratorio,
concerts and recitals across the United States and in his native
country Korea.
Recently Sang Kyun made his Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall
debut as the soloist of the Grand Gala Concert with Eurydice Opera
Orchestra and Chorus which was dedicated to victims and heroes
of September 11th, 2001.
Sang Kyun made his Carnegie Hall debut as soloist in Handel's
Messiah with the Gloria Orchestra of New York.
Mr. Choi started his operatic career as Dulcamara from the Elixer
of Love on the stage of The National Theatre of Seoul Korea.
His numerous other roles have included Dr. Falke from Die Fledermaus(Queens
Opera), Cheap Jack from Hugh The Drover(Bronx Opera), title roles
of The Marriage of Figaro(Roma Festival, Bronx Lyric Opera), Don
Giovanni(NY Operesque) and Mikado(Troupers Light Opera, New York
Gilbert and Sullivan Foundation), Germont from La Traviata(Queens
Opera), Papageno from The Magic Flute(Dicapo Opera), Marcello
from La Bohem(Rutgers Opera, Korean American Opera, Family Opera),
Figaro from The Barber of Seville, Sharpless from Madama Butterfly(Mannes
opera), Melchior from Amahl and the Night Visitors(Mannes opera),
etc..
Mr. Choi was the featured baritone in the premiere of the Opera
Immigrant of the womb by Jason Kao Whang, Moon Princess by Yukako
Mito. He was also featured in the American premiere of the opera
Fox Gombo by Sugano Hirokazu, which was broadcast on WQXR(NYC
FM 96.3) with Bob Sherman as host. Concert performances have seen.
Mr. Choi appear as the baritone soloist in the New York premiere
of The Grand Festival Mass by Frank Carolle, and Beethoven's Symphony
No.9 with the Seoul International Choral Festival Chorus and Orchestra.
Sang Kyun made his German debut successfully at Altenburg Festival
2000, where he was critically acclaimed as the singer who made
the hearts of the German audience race with his warm and full
voice.
Mr. Choi's competition awards include winner of the 61st New York
YWCA Voice Competition, Elizabeth Walter Voice Competition, Naomi
Music Competition and Han Yang Voice Competition of Seoul
