What is 'Eurydice'
EURYDICE:
Opera
Eurydice is derived from the famous Greek mythology "Orpheus
and Eurydice". The first two operas written were based
on this myth, where Orpheus, a musician, lost his beautiful
wife Eurydice to death. Bitterly mourning her loss he decided
to try to bring her back from Hades to the world of the living.
As he was traveling in the underworld searching for Eurydice,
Orpheus would play his lyre and sing whenever he was in danger.
He finally moved Pluto to give Eurydice back to him under one
condition-that he must not look back at her as he led her out
of the underworld. As he was liading her out of Hades however,
Orpheus couldn't help himself and turned to look back at Eurydice.
She immediately perished and this time Orpheus decided to take
his own life and die with her. As he was about to stab himself
Amor, the goddess of Love, appeared and brought Eurydice back
to life.
Eurydice was the name of the woman who gave Orpheus a reason
to sing. We at Opera Eurydice would like to offer the Orpheuses
of today stages to sing on, and provide audiences with their
beautiful music.
